admin2022-01-19T20:38:10+00:0038TH PRESIDENT (2020-2021)
As a President, I faced unprecedented challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Health risks and restrictions severely limited my ability to organize events that I envisioned. Despite these limitations, we launched a webinar platform for the first time in the KACPA history. The webinar platform offers CPE Seminars to CPAs in all states, and has transformed KACPA into a central hub that serves Korean CPAs not only in Southern California but all over the country.
I am also pleased to report that we reached another milestone when major Korean newspapers published articles from our CPA journal in their business sections for the first time. The publication of these articles has bolstered our reputation and significantly expanded our reach to the general public. Most importantly, they allow us to provide valuable education to the Korean readers in the country.
By utilizing a webinar platform, we offered live-broadcast of public tax seminars to Korean in all fifty U.S states, another first in the history of our organization. We have also launched a YouTube channel to engage with the general public.
Our continuous commitment to community service, particularly in challenging times, is affirmed by the fact that we conducted radio shows, offered public seminars, communicated changes in tax laws, and provided information about government grants and incentives to the Korean community. It seemed at first that the pandemic may disrupt our scholarship awards, but we forged ahead by rewarding students with tremendous scholastic potential. Even with the scholarship expenditure, we still produced a surplus budget to ensure that KACPA will have ample resources to fund its future programs and activities. It has been a great honor to serve this organization, and I am especially proud of our officers who worked hard and produced impressive results in the face of adversity. Their performance reflects their dedication and commitment to the organization. Thank you once again and please stay healthy!

admin2022-01-03T15:29:24+00:0036TH PRESIDENT (2018-2019)
This term was another growing year with positive changes for KACPA. We started with Community Tax Seminar with more than 100 public attendees, then the Professionals Golf Tournament with maximum players.
To meet the increasing expectations toward this respected professional organization, we held the Inauguration Ceremony at an upscale venue with European-inspired outdoor gardens located in Hollywood and shared great moments with nearly 300 attendees.
During this term, we drove forward with a clear focus on “New Member reach-out.” For this, we planned out the Hollywood Bowl Picnic, New Members Night, and the July Seminar as a Series. At the New Members Night event, many attended younger generation CPAs and candidates expressed appreciation for our interest toward them. The events for that theme continued to the Christmas Party, where we had a special recognition time for the New Members. With everyone’s efforts, our e-mails are now going out to about 60 more new members. This term, two-thirds of our Officers were newly-appointed.
We improved the quality of “CPE seminars” with practical yet in-depth topics and reaching out to renowned mainstream speakers.
Our Journal was upgraded with an enhanced format and adding a special edition to provide with the newly enacted TCJA tax reform and distributed timely at the Christmas Party.
Newsletters with photo gallery, upcoming events, and timely technical issues were published.
As for the KACPA scholarship award, an unprecedented number of students with outstanding academic performances from top-rated universities applied. Besides, all recipients were present at the ceremony.
KACPA Bylaws Amendment voting process was executed. Now, the 1st “Amended Bylaws” take full effect.
In Olympic tradition, it is symbolic for the selected runners to hand over the torch to the next runner. Over the past years, each President did a great job to deliver the torch to the next. I was greatly honored to carry it on to serve our members and the Korean-American Society.

The 35th administration of KACPAwas started with three goals in mind. First was to preserve the legacy of the founding members and the predecessors of KACPA, Second, to maintain a mutually supportive relationship with the sponsors and partners; and Third and foremost, to provide a valuable membership to the existing and prospective members. In accomplishing the first goal, all existing programs were fully utilized, completed exactly as planned, and contributed to reinforcing the KACPA tradition of communication, support, and professional competency among members. In accomplishing the second goal, a close attention was given to the current issues and feedbacks of the sponsors, and the utmost effort was given in communicating and participating in sponsor events, regardless of its size. In accomplishing the third goal Member Benefit Chart was developed with an emphasis of the difference that the membership can make. Also, much efforts were exerted in clarifying the terms of the Bylaws, and a draft for amendment was presented in a hope for the heightened effectiveness for the future.

admin2023-05-10T12:44:09+00:0034TH PRESIDENT (2017)
As my term as the 34th KACPA President comes to a close, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for the privilege of serving as your leader. It has been an honor to work alongside each and every one of you, the 34th KACPA cabinet members, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.
Over the past year, we have faced many challenges, but we have also demonstrated our resilience, strength, and determination to overcome them. We have worked tirelessly to uphold the integrity and professionalism of our organization, and to support our members in their pursuit of excellence. We have organized and conducted monthly seminars on various topics, including tax law changes, financial planning, and accounting best practices. We have served our Korean community by doing new tax law updates on radio broadcasting and “in-person seminar”, awarding scholarships to future leaders of our community. We have also held “CPA Forum” where our team presented how to build up successful practice by building a strong network, focusing on client service, embracing technology, setting up realistic fees, etc.
As I pass the torch to the next President, I am confident that our organization will continue to thrive and succeed. I have no doubt that we will continue to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and excellence in all that we do.
In close, I want to take this opportunity to thank you, our members including cabinet members, directors, and sponsors, for your unwavering commitment to our organization, and for your dedication to the profession of public accounting. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors, and I look forward to seeing the continued success of our organization.

While maintaining and developing existing activities as well as confirming the identity of KACPA with its 33 year history, we were to focus on realistic and practical businesses rather than the exhibition of businesses. The following new jobs have been successfully completed with these goals in mind. First, we held the “Legacy Mixer” to expand our appreciation of senior members and past presidents and thank them for their dedication. The Legacy Mixer allowed us to formally confirm KACPA’s identity and enhance friendship among the members. Additionally, we designed and made the new KACPA logo, flag and condolences flag. We also newly enacted the “KACPA Society Funeral” for those members who have dedicated many years to KACPA and the community and completed the related regulations. As part of the KACPA activities for the Korean-American community, KACPA held the “Bankers and CPAs Forum.” The Forum provided KACPA members and bankers with the opportunity to share their experiences and information, as well as develop professional relationships. We also worked to restore the relationship between the Consulate General of Republic of Korea, Korea National Tax Services and KACPA, so as to have tax-related seminars for Korean Americans residing in Southern California. Furthermore, KACPA started delivering its weekly news to public on YTN FM Radio 100.3 HD2. Lastly, the 17th annual “KACPA Journal” was changed to include the subtitle of “공인회계사 (Gong-in Hoegae Sa),” which means “CPA” in Korean, and the Journal’s direction for readership was expanded to include all Korean people, as opposed to just members. By successfully completing the activities demanded by the society and the community, KACPA gained better recognition from community.

Another year at KACPA has come and gone and what a fabulous year it was. As only the second female president since KACPA’s humble beginnings, women’s eloquent touch can go a long way. Instead of focus on adding more events or activities, KACPA, however made each ongoing events and activities much bigger and better as evidenced by the largest turnouts at both the professional mixer and the annual golf tournament. We are also very proud of our new website. It was finally launched this past year and the feedback has been stupendous. Much to our delight, KACPA is in a very good place today largely due to everyone who has served and took part year after year.

It was a growing year for KACPA, establishing itself as enduring and one of the most respected organizations in Korean American community. The membership reached above 300 with increased participation in monthly seminars. We have established a working relationship with Chinese American CPA Association, by conducting a joint seminar, sharing common issues among new immigrants to the US. Achieving highest number of participants in annual Bankers, CPA and Professionals Golf Tournament, KACPA has established itself as the glue, which binds the community professionals. After a year of inactivity, KACPA restarted Bank Loan Officers Training program, where over 60 new Korean American bank loan officers were trained about reports produced by CPAs and tax returns. Through increased number of radio shows, KACPA actively relayed the tax law changes to the community.
